NGATEA. PLUNKET SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Plains branch of the Plunket Society wap held at Ngatea on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs W. G. Hayward presiding over a good attendance o* members Mrs Taylor and Mrs Loudon, of Kerepeehi, and Mrs Parfitt, of Pipiroa, were added to the executive The nurse’s report showed that the society was progressing, and matters were proceeding smoothly. It was decided to purchase a set of scales for weighing babies. Mesdames Loudon, McMillan, and Hutchinson explained the arrangements that had been made in connection with the formation of the Kerepeehi sub-branch. There were now thirty-two members in Kerepeehi, so the sub-branch would be on a sound financial footing. The transportation of the nurse was an expensive item, but it was hoped to arrange a concert or other social function in the near future to raise funds for that purpose. As yet the nurse would only visit Kerepeehi fortnightly. The arrangements were approved by the branch, and the sub-brancn was congratulated on its enterprise. KEREPEEHI. PAPER DRESS BALL. Juist as the township street lamps provide light, in dark places, so the annual ball organised by the Township Lighting Committee and held in the hall on Friday evening provided for the happy throng that assembled a bright spot in what would otherwise have been an ordinary monotonous week. An enjoyable time had been anticipated, and the sixty-odd couples who were present were not disappointed, for it is safe to say tha<. everything calculated to quicken lagging spirits and dissipate the ennui of a work-a-day existence wae abundantly supplied. In compliance with a request most of the dancers wore paper fancy dresses, and as hundreds of coloured streamers were used in the decorative scheme a kaleidoscopic scene was presented. As usual the Kopuarahi orchestra provided excellent dance music and contributed in no ismall way to the enjoyment o£ the evening. The supper was spread in the new supper room, where- seating was arranged for fifty at each sitting, and the scene presented by the tables and the effective decoration reflected great credit on those concerned Mesdames Hudson, Hoff, Kidd, and McMillan. Dancing was continued with vim until an early hour. KOPUARAHI. OPENING OF TENNIS SEASON. There was an animated scene at the opening ceremony at the Kopuarahi Tennis Club’s courts on Saturday afternoon, when, in addition to a full attendance of members, there were present visitors from various sister clubs and residents of the district who always display a keen interest in the welfare of the club. The courts were in good order. Mr D. J. O’Carroll, president, welcomed the visitors and mentioned in the course of his remarks that it was a great asset to the district to have such facilities for recreation where, in addition to getting excellent exercise and amusement, the members could meet players from all parts of the Plains. He congratulated the club on its past successes and wished it a successful season.

Mrs D. J. Law, wife of the club captain drove a ball over the neb and Mr O’Carroll declared the courts open for the season.
