CRICKET ON THE PLAINS
• ; — THE COMING SEASON. A NEW CLUB FORMED. The present indications are that the coming cricket season on the Plains will, be a very successful one. All the old-established clubs, report increases M in membership and new clubs are ing formed or are mooted. On Saturday last the Pipiroa club started to lay a concrete pitch on the domain, the Waitakaruru and Kopuarahi clubs held practices, and a new club was formed at Ngatea. The formation of clubs in Kerepeehi and Turua has been discussed, but so far no one has come forward and taken the first step. The Ngatea club anticipates having sufficient players to put two teams in the field, and hopes to be well under way in three weeks’ time. Several substantial donations have been received from men who realise the asset it is to a district to have facilities for good sport available. Mr W. G. Hayward has granted the club the use of his paddock, and a working bee will be held shortljy to improve the pitch. At an enthusiastic meeting on Saturday evening Mr J. Darlington wais elected president of the club, Mr S. McKay secretary, and Messrs Darlington and A. E. Ludlow delegates to the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association. The executive committee appointed were Messrs A. E, Ludlow, P. Leonard, B. Hayward, 0. Cleave, and C. Wilton. A grounds committee and a social committee were also appointed. and expect to become active in the near future.
