CONTROL OF ROAD.

WAIHI TO THE BEACH. LEGAL. OPINION TO BE OBTAINED. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council Mr J. JRitchie, town clerk of the Waihi Borough Council, waited on the councrfc and requested that that portion of the road from Waihi to the Waihi Beach at present vested in the county should be vested in the Waihi Borough Council, so as to make the beach reserve, recently handed over by the county to the borough, a contiguous area. Mr Ritchie stated that he had just returned from Wellington, where an interview with the Hon. Minister for Internal Affairs had been obtained, and the suggestion was made that as the present session was drawing to a close it would be easier to apply the county council to agree to having that portion of the road vested in the borough council and save considerable delay in arranging legislation. In support of the request Mr Ritchie stated that his council wats carrying out its agreement made with the' county on assuming control of the beach reserve, and that £250 had already been spent on the road, to be followed by an expenditure of a further £2OO. After a brief discussion, during which Mr Ritchie retired, the matter was referred to the county council’s solicitors for a legal opinion.
