It is the roasting of coffee berries that results in the. development of the exquisite flavour so much appreciated by coffee-drinkers. That is well known. But it is not so well known that our New Zealand-grown tobaccos are now subjected to the same roasting or toasting process, and with the same result. The flavour is brought fully out, while at the same time the deleterious properties of the tobacco are destroyed. All tobaccos, no matter where grown, have this in common, —that they contain nicotine, some more, some less. And it is this poison that is chiefly responsible for the Bufferings of those who indulge too freely in the use of the fragrant weed. Heart and nerves are generally affected, and often the eyesight. Scientists now tell us that toasting neutralises part of the nicotine, and that toasted tobaccos may, therefore, be smoked with impunity. They recommend Riverhead Gold, mild and aromatic; Toasted Navy Cut (Bulldog), medium strength ; and the fullbodied Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullhead label). All are toasted*
