NEW DRAINAGE AREAS.
the horahia district. RT.KC.TION OF BOARD. The necessary Order-In-Council, fixing the date and place of the first poll to elect eeven ratepayers to be the trustees to administer the recently constituted Horahia drainage area having been gazetted, nominations will be received up till noon on Thursday, October 30, by Mr W. E Q& Willy, who has been appointed returning officer, of ratepayers eligible and willing to act. If the number of nominations received exceed seven a poll will be held on Thursday, November 6, 1924. • Any ratepayer within the Horahia drainage area, which is, roughly, all that land between the Waihou and Piako rivers northward of Kerepeehi (excluding the Hauraki Drainage Board’s area) who is not in arrears with his local body rates is eligible for-nomination and to vote. Nomination papers may be obtained from Mr Willy at his residence, Piako Road, or from the post office at Kerepeehi. As the area has not yet been divided into wards it is possible for the whole board of trustees elected to be residents of one area. While this is not desirable, it is of little consequence, if membens of the right calibre are elected. The brains of a community are demonstrated by the representatives it elects, and the provision of adequate drainage for the area is. a problem that will not easily be solved. A great deal of the responsibility for the future of the area will be upon the new drainage board.
