METHODIST CHURCH.
ANNUAL SALE OF WORK. SUBSTANTIAL SUM REALISED. As the result of many hours of work by members of the ladies’ and girls’ guilds connected with the Paeroa Methodist Church there was a large display of useful and ornamental articles and cookery at the Centenary Hall on Wednesday afternoon and evening, and. these were disposed of at reasonable prices, and a substantial amount was realised for the circuit funds. The hall was tastefully decorated with Chinese lanterns, pungas, flowers, and greenery, and reflected great credit on those responsible, Messrs W. Marshall and A. L. Mitchell. In the afternoon Rev, A, E. Jefferson briefly introduced the Mayor, Mr W. Marshall, who officially declared the sale of work open. He trusted good business would eventuate. A willing band of assistants soon startee work, and the well-laden stalls Were relieved of their burden before the close of the evening. Numerous competitions among the young people created much interest, and some of the bakery exhibits called forth much favourable comment. ' The stalls were presided over by the following :—Produce, Mrs Innis, Misses Rickard and T. Innis; surprize packets, Miss N. Hayward; fancy goods, Misses A. Innis, L. Vuglar, and F. Shaw; sewing work, Mesdames Tattersail, Gillman, and Wood: sweets, Mrs Mitchell, Misses B. Gibb and Butler; dips, Misses Gibb and Bridge ; cakes, Mesdamep Jefferson, and Gibb; refreshments, Mesdames Parkinson, Wood, Sorensen, Eaddy, and assistants. Competitions resulted as follows: Kisses, Miss Wood ; home-made bread, Mrs McKenna; scones, Miss Wood; date scones, Mrs H. Wood; Brown Barrett competition. Miss N. Vuglar 1, Mrs Jefferson 2 (10 entries) ; jam sandwich, Mrs Hayward ; brown sandwich, Miss Wood; jam roll, Mrs H. Wood ; madiera cake, Mrs Hayward ; cream puffs, Mrs Gibb; gems, Mrs Eaddy: assorted cakes, Mrs Hayward ; brandy snaps, Mrs Eaddy; pikelets, Mrs Jefferson ; cream cakes, Mrs Gillman : naildriving, Mrs Nield and Mr Tattersall; weight of box of lollies, Mr Gillman ; weight of dinner, M-is J. Mitchell: weight of ham, Miss Shaw and Mr W. L. Lawrence (equal); lighting candles, Mrs Jefferson and Mr H. Wood; weight of cake, Mrs McKenna ; weight of biscuits, Mr A. L. Mitchell. The judging of the cookery was ia the capable hands of Mr E. Roke, and gave every satisfaction.
