GOLF.
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. CLOSING EVENT OF THE SEASON. The members of the Paeroa Golf Club had every reason to feel disgruntled with the weather that prevailed on Saturday afternoon. It had been arranged to formally close tho club for the season, and a number of interesttag competitions had been set down, but the rain came down relentlessly, putting all prospects of any outdoor competitions out of the question. Despite the weather conditions some thirty-five club members and frientfe assembled in the clubhouse at the racecourse, and the afternoon was pleasantly passed in chatting and the partaking of a delicious afternoon tea provided by the lady club members. During the afternoon the president. Dr. T. G. Smith, complimented those who had braved the elements to be ‘ present at the closing event and cordially welcomed the visitors on behalf of the club. The president said that so tar as the men’s golf was concerned, very little interest had been displayed during the season, but the ladies had shown a great improvement and heartily deserved the trophies that had been won. The trophies won during the season were then presented by the president as follows; Ladies championship, Miss F. Walmsley; junior championship, Miss R. Tierney ; club handicap, Mrs H. H. Bray first, Mrs W. Bain second; captain’s trophy, presented by Mrs R. L. Miller, Mrs W. L. Lawrence ; Mrs Arthur’s trophy, Mrs W. Bain; Mrs Topliss’ trophy, Misp L. Buchanan. Monthly club medals: May, Mrs Bray; June, Mrs Miller; July, Mrs Bain; August, Mrs Arthur; September, Misp E. Walmsley; October, Mrs Bray. The L.G.U. silver medal was won by Mrs Miller, and the L.G.U. bronze medal by Mrs Bain. ; The president congratulated the winners on the success attained, and expressed the hope that next year would see further records added to achievements. - As an indication of the small amount of interest displayed by the men .this season it is worthy of comment that the men’s championship, club handicap, and president’s troph? competitions have not been completed, and only two monthly medals were competed for, the winners being H. H. Bray in July and W. J. Byrne in September. At-the conclusion of .the presentation the president thanked the donors of the various trophies and the ladies’ committee for the valuable pervices rendered during the season, and in declaring, the golf season formally closed in Paeroa, said he hoped that next year a more successful and interesting season would eventuate. LADIES’ MATCH. Next Wednesday the ladies will have a day on the links. In the morn- : ing there will be a Canadian foursore, play to commence at 11 o’clock, and in the afternoon will be a flag match. Trophies presented by Mrs E. Porritt. In both matches partners are to be drawn f<jr.
