SCULLING.
AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. 25TH INSTANT AT HAMILTON. The big sculling match between Dick Arnst (challenger) and Pat Hannan (holder) for the Australasian championship will be held on the Waikato River at Hamilton on Satuiday. October 25. Tremendous interest is being evinced in the event, foi on the result of this race will follow a challenge for the world championship. Both Arnst and Hannan are now in Hamilton topping off their training. Each day sees them go out in the presence of a large and inteiested audience, and speculation rife as to who the winner is likely to be Arnst at present weighs 15 stone, but he is confident that he will enter the boat at 14 stone. Hannan, who is slight beside his burly opponent, is the picture of physical fitness, and expects to strip at 12 stone. Arnst undertakes a great deal of strenuous physical exercise, including rowing over tne course twice daily, as well as running, walking, and cycling. Hannan also does the course twice daily, and walks and skips a good deal. The race will be against the stream, and will finish at the traffic bridge.
On the Sunday a number of trips around the district will be available for—visitors. Watson’s ’Bus Co., Ltd. (the Green ’bus service), will run an excursion to the Waitomo Caves, leaving Hamilton at 6.30 a.m.
