ELECTRIC COOKING.
POWER BOARD MOVES. ENGINEER TO REPORT. At the Thames Valley Power Boar.l meeting yesterday Mr F. E. Flatt introduced the matter of cooking by electricity, and said that he considered it wa»s a matter for the board to take up immediately. Continuing, Mr Flatt said that in Paeroa the Ohinemuri Gas Co. had stated its intention to close down, which would mean that many people would have to consider means for cook.ing other than by gas-rings and ranges. He thought that- electric cooking should become popular, provided the public were tokl more about it and the board was prepaied to put the matter on a footing that would come within range of the average householder. So tar as Paeroa was concerned, he thought the mattei might very well be taken up. To popularise cooking by electricity it would first of all be 'necessary to bring about a reduction, and at the, same time put reliable cooking appliances and facilities within reach of the public. Mr F. H. Claxton said he agreed entirely with Mr Flatt, and he foresaw great possibilities in the suggestion. The following resolution was then moved by Mr Flatt, seconded by the chairman, and carried: “That the engineer review the position so far as the use of electricity for cooking is concerned, and that he be requested to devise a rate which, whilst protecting the interests of the Board, will tend to cultivate this clajss of load.”
