DISTRICT NEWS.
WAITAKARURU. CHURCH CONCERT. The Waitakaruru Public Hall was packed on Thursday evening on the occasion of the concert organised by the Methodist ministers. The Rev. A. Ashcroft, president of the Methodist Conference, presided. Opening with a quartette by Messrs C. W. Schultz, Rawlings, Farrer, and the Rev. Brooker, of Ngatea, there followed a song by Mrs McPherson, of Waitakaruru. An enthusiastic reception was accorded Miss Parfitt, of Pipiroa, who contributed several recitations Miss K. Miller, of Turua, was deservedly encored, and the song by Mrs C. A. Hayward, of Waitakaruru, was well received. Miss Brooke, of Auckland, was heard to advantage hi several songs, and also with the Rev. Brooker in several duets. The songs of Miss Johnson, of Ngatea, appealed to the audience, and numerous encores were insisted upon. Songs by the Rev. Brooker, of Ngatea, and the Rev. Jefferson, of Paeroa, were also well received, while Mrs Kersey, of Matamata, who contributd several songs, was enthusiastically recalled. Supper was served by the ladies of Waitakaruru at the close of the entertainment.
