PAEROA IMPROVEMENTS.
RAILWAY REARRANGEMENTS. LARGE EXPENDITURE INVOLVED. included in the statement tof the Minister for Railways setting forth the programme of works which the department intends to carry into effect is the rearrangement of the Paeroa station and yards, on which proposal the sum of £45,000 has been provided. Of this amount the department anticipates spending £20,000 during the first year of the work, and the balance of £25,000 during the second year. IMPORTANCE OF PAEROA. In detailing the various work to be undertaken by the department the Hon. Minister has made the following statement with reference to Paeroa’ “Paeroa rearrangement: A commencement with this work has already been made. The improvement and stop-banking of the Ohinemuri and Waihou rivers has necessitated raising the railway line over the Ohinemuri River and placing the station farther from the river. At the same time it'is necessary to enlarge the yard, as it will be a junction station of considerable importance when the through line to Tauranga and eastwards is opened, and of still greater importance when the PaeroaPokeno deviation is constructed.”
