DISTRICT NEWS.
HOPAI. TENNIS CLUB. The Hopai Tennis Club held its annual meeting at the residence of Mr A. R. Vowles on Saturday evening. Mr L. S Bidwell presiding over a large attendance of members. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a satisfactory credit balance. The officers eletced were: Presiddent, Mr S. Coppins, senr.; vice-presi-dents, Messrs’J. Motion and J. N. Anderson; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. A. Waite ; assistant secretary, Mr S. Coppins, junr.; club captain, and delegate to Association, Mr A. RVowles ; match committee, Messrs A. R. Vowles, W. Murphy, and S. Coppirns. Blue and maroon were chosen for club colours. Hie official opening for season was fixed for Saturday, October 25. The delegate to the Hauraki Plains Tteanis Association was instructed to endeavour to have all competitions derided by the number of games, rather than by the number of sets as at present. An extensive programme of improvements, including the erection of a pavilion, the preparation of a clay court alongside the concrete one, and the piping of certain drains, .wais adopted. A donation of £lO from Mrs J. Motion towards the cost of the pavilion was gratefully accepted. The improvements will be'carried out oy voluntary labour, the first working bee to be held on Saturday next. WAITAKABURU. OPENING OF CHURCH. The recently erected Memorial Church at Waitakaruru will be officially opened and dedicated to-morrow at 2 p.m.' by His Worship the Mayor of Paeroa( Mr W. Marshall) and the Rev. A. Ashcroft, president of the Methodist Conference.
