TURUA TOWN BOARD.

THE FIRST MEETING. CHAIRMAN REAPPOINTED. . 5 The first meeting of the newly appointed members ofi the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday evening. the following members being present: Messrs J. Mules, A. C. Scott. F. Olsen, J. T. Davies, S. G. Williams, J. McConnell, and C. Bedford. The clerk, Mr J. E. Green also attended. The declaration of the result of the poll was read by the clerk. Prior to the appointment of a chairman Mr Mules, the previous chairman, said that he desired the new members of the board to be fully acquainted with the position of the matters the board had in hand. A lengthy report was then read by the clerk, the board being in committee. On resuming in open meeting the appointment ofi a chairman was proceeded with. Mr McConnell mover, and Mr Scott seconded- that Mr J. Mules be reappointed. Mr Mules said he would like to see someone else in the chair. He did not have the time to give.the offee full justice. Messrs Scott and Davies pressed Mr Mules to accept nomination, and this he eventually did, saying that he had always been given the wholehearted support of members, and all the proceedings of the board had been harmonious. To leave the chair at the present time would be like deserting a sinking ship. He did not desire the chairmanship, but would accept it. There being no further nominations, Mr Mules was declared elected. The chairman said that a great deal of the credit for the work done by the board wins due to the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. The thanks of the board was due to him. A vote of thanks to Mr Green was carried by acclamation. The chairman welcomed the new members, who briefly responded. The board then went into committee to consider matters arising out of the annual report. The date of the regular meeting was not changed.
