KEREPEEHI RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association was held in the hall on Monday evening, the president, Mr E. S, Masters, presiding over an attendance. of about twenty-five members. The annual report stated that there were 29 financial members and 18 unfinancial members. Thirteen meetings had been held and approximately 40 letters written. The association had undoubtedly achieved something during its first year of operation. Tne financial statement showed receipts from subscriptions to be £7 5s and expenditure £6 17s lOd, leaving a credit balance of 7s 2d. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr E. S. Masters was unanimously re-elected president of the association for the ensuing year. For the position of secretary Mr W. Booth was nominated, but he declined to take any part unless the conduct of meetings was improved. It was not right that meetings should last until midnight and nothing be done. He was not reflecting upon thei chairman, but was of the opinion that a live executive should be appointed to prepare business so that there should be no need for fruitless discussion. Mr E. S. Masters declined to act as president under the .circumstances, and Mr W. Booth was then elected president and Mr G. H. Elliott secret tary. A vote of thanks to the retiring president, Mr E. S. Masters, was moved by Mr H. Ward, seconded by Mr H. Hoff, and carried enthusiastically by acclamation. Messrs C. Pearse, S. W. Bridge, A. H. Hoff, C. Loving, and R. Hutchinson were elected an executive committee. MAORI TANGI. Mr J. Murdock said that the opinion had been much expressed in the township that natives should not be permitted to bring the bodies of Maoris who had died of infectious diseases back to the pah for the purpose of holding a tangi. It was thought that this was constituting a serious menace to. public health. Mr Hoff, chairman of the school committee, isaid that .the matter had been brought before him by parents who were very concerned. Native children attending the school were present at the tangi. It was decided to send a letter of protest to the Minister for Public Health, and draw attention to the fact that dead bodies were brought to the district even when the native had died of an infectious disease. THE HALL PIANO. Mr H. Hoff, who at a previous meeting had been appointed to control the publicly owned piano at present in the hull, asked for instructions as to the charges to be levied for its use, whether it should be insured, and

whether necessary repairs should be carried out. It was decided that the, executive go into the matter. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the newly appointed executive was held immediately after the generar meeting closed. The president said that the executive could meet, say, monthly, and discuss the business that was before the association. If it was of sufficient importance a general meeting could be called, to which the executive could submit recommendations. It was decided that the secretary and president have power to call meetings of the executive. It was mentioned that matters deserving attention in the near future were the provision of a public library, the disposal of the public hall site funds, metalling of roads, etc.
