BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY RECORDS. The following statements were presented at the Paeroa Borough Council meeting on Thursday last: FOREMAN'S REPORT. “The laying of water pipes, patching and repairing roads, etc., has been the work for the past month. Old Te. Aroha, Te Arolia, and Thames roads have been patched with metal, and also the lower portion of Station Road. “The work authorised on Morgan’s Road has been attended to and the bad corner in Miller Avenue has been metalied. Tower’s Street footpath has been trimmed and gravel put on, and Kennedy Street path has also been trimmed. The drain in upper Normanby Road has been cleaned, and Puke Road bridge has been repaired with longitudinal decking. “We have had the 2in water-pipes laid from Thames Road up along Aorangi Road to the new railway settlement, a length of 20 chains, and also a 2in water-pipe up the footpath in Belmont Road for service supply, a distance of about 300 ft. I think these should be carried right through the full length of the road, ais it will save cutting up your main street in the event of service pipes leaking oi breaking as these pipes are rapidly deteriorating. “The following work is recommended fot the present month: Junction Street path, Hill Street, drain cleaning, etc. ; cleaning drains Albert and Bradley Streets and Station Road.”

W ORKS COMMITTEE'S REPORT. “We recommend the adoption of the foreman’s report, pointing out, however, that it is only intended at present to lay the 2in pipe in Belmont Road where the footpath has not been tarred and sanded; the other work to be done as. required at a later date. "An effort is being made to push on with the work of cleaning up the sides of the streets, and the horsey are at present engaged in Thames Road. Messrs Andrews and Hare have offered £5 towards the cost of filling in the side road opposite their propei ty in Thames Road, and we recommend .doing this work. We ask authority to purchase a wheel scoop at a cost of £37 to facilitate this class of work. “Your Committee finds that it is impossible to secure the use of a road roller during the coming, summer, and as.it is absolutely necessary to have one it. order to proceed with the general street improvement works we ask that an Aveling and Porter 8-ton roller, fully equipped with scarifyer, be purchased from Anderson’s, Ltd. Special purchase terms can be arranged whereby half the purchase price is paid on delivery and the remainder during the next financial year. We realise that this involves considerable expenditure, but are forced to recognise that unless we. have a roller urgent work cannot be completed this summer. “With reference to the street levels at the intersection of Hill Street, Taylor's Avenue, and Moore Street, we recommend that there be no alteration in the existing road, but that Taylor’s Avenue be graded to the grades shown on plan but commencing at the height of the present metal in 1-lili Street. "in regard to the cutting at the top of Hill Street to Kennedy ’Street, we ask for authority to have this work done in connection with Taylor’s Avenue formation, at a cost of £2OO. “We recommend that 9;% chains of Puke Road from the outfall drain towards the town be sealed as a test strip, giving the surface one coat of boiled tar and one coat of bitumen and chips, at an estimated cost of £133. If this method proves satisfactory it will be of considerable value to the fiorough. .The last two mentioned works wobid, of course, be done out of loan money. “With the completion of the new station Coronation Street will the goods yard entrance. Thijs street is in a deplorable condition, and if it has to carry the traffic next winter it must be formed and metalled, and it is necessary to commence at once to take advantage of the fine weather. We recommend that tenders be-called forthwith for the formation of the 30ft carriageway, and that material be ordered to metal for a width of 18ft and a depth-of 9in. This is estimated to cost £l2lO. If this work is put in hand it will be necessary to rescind . previous resolution appropriating street improvements loan monies, but as the work is urgent we recommend that inis be done. FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. ‘.‘Your Committee begs to report that during the month the revenue has amounted to £367.145* and expenditure to £558 Ils 2d, including the attached accounts which your Committee recommends for payment. “The balance to the .debit of the District Fund Account, after meeting the accounts presented for payment to-night, is £77 IQs 9d;. but there is an amount of £l4OO advanced to the streets improvements and sewerage loan accounts. “Your Committee also recommends for payment the accounts attached to the Street Improvements and Sewerage Loan accounts. The debit balance in these accounts after meeting these payments, plus the advances made by the District Fund Account, are: Sewerage Loan Account, £5239 Is; street Improvement Loan Account, £946 15s lid. “The bank position of the various accounts isr Sewerage Loan Account, £4639 Is ; Street Improvement Loan Account, £146 15s lid; District Fund Account.. £77 10s 9d, all ■ debit balances.’’
