Davies, and J. E. Green, secretary. STREET LIGHTING.. Mr G. J. Walker, secretary of the Turua Concert Party, forwarded a cheque for £l4 10s, being the nett proceeds of the recent concert held to augment the Township Lighting Fund. The State Advances Department wrote stating that the precedent consent of the Governor-General in Council had been obtained to the raising of the town hall loan of £3500. An extract, from the N.Z. Gazette prescribing the rate of interest at 6\per cent, was also received. On the motion of Mr Beck, seconded by Mr Scott, the Finance Committee wais empowered to raise the money as soon as possible. __ KERBING AND CHANNELLING. The matter of the concrete kerbing and channelling of the footpath from the post office to the store was discussed. and it was suggested that the work be put in hand right away. Mr Gardiner, while approving, pointed out that it might Se advisable to postpone the work until the bitumen work had been completed. A much better job could then be done. The matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee, with a recommendation that prices for the work be obtained. HIRE OF PUNTS. In reply to the board’s application for the hire of four metal punts the county clerk wrote stating that the matter would be laid before the council. The chairman said he had been led to bel’eve that the board had a good chance of getting the punts. THE ROADING SCHEME. A letter to Messrs Trethowen and Co., of the Kauaeranga Quarry, making ar. appointment for the members of the board to visit the quarry, when, if satisfactory arrangements could be made, a contract for the supply of 2000 yards- of metal could be signed, was read. The chairman remarked that members were familiar with what transpired. The clerk reported that Mr Skitrop, of the Union Asphalt Co., had visited Turua with reference to the permanent reading scheme. The specifications for the bitum work had been examined by the new county engineer, Mr F Basham, who had suggested several improvements in the method of having the work done. The question of whether the bitumen paving on the side streets would be connected to that on the main streets brought up the matter of replacing some of the bridges. It was suggested that at the corner of Rawatuna Street the bridge should be removed and the ditch filled. At other placqs concrete pipes for the full width of the road would be very desirable. It had previously been decided by the board to consider the matter when the reading was under way. Mr Mules said'that while there, was an objection to pipes in drains, many of those under discussion were so close to the flood-gates that provided the pipes were large enough no harm would be caused. Mr Olsen thought the Drainage Board should contribute towards the work. Mr Mules pointed out that the Turua a'ea of the drainage board and the to»vn board area were the same, so the same ratepayers would have to bear the cost. He could not promise that the drainage board would contribute. It was decided to approach the drainage board. It was agreed to hold <•» special meeting on Monday next to consider the tenders received for the roading scheme. TENDERS.
