DISTRICT NEWS.
NG ATE A. THE LIBRARY. A meeting pf the committee of the Ngatea Public Library was held on Saturday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Mrs Hayward and Messrs W. Clare and N. J. Crabbe. The secretary reported that the funds in hand amounted to £l2. It was decided to obtain price-lists of new books and to have the library building painted. The annual meeting of subscribers was fixed for September 9. KAIHERE. LIBRARY FUNDS. The Kaihere Library Committee added the substantial sura of £l4 .to its funds as a result of a concert held on Friday. Never had the hall been sb crowded. The added inducement of the fine moonlight night drew forth many from the surrounding districts of Torehape and Patetonga, and vehicles of all descriptions fined the road to tile hall. The generous programme Was well received, most of the items being encored, several of the items were particularly good. A comic duet was sung by Messrs Pike and Buchanan, other duets by Mr and Mrs
Smallfield, Misses Pekin, Misses Wallace ; songs were rendered by Mr Brooker, Miss B. Wallace, Miss D. darken, Mqs Wallace, Mr Pike, Mrs Senioi, Mr Woodbridge, Mrs ISyiiallfield, Mr Torr, and Mr Buchanan. Miss I. W'l.kins recited, and the school children gave a chorus and a tableaux. PATETONGA. TENNIS BALL. Patetonga, the favoured of the Gods i» itJ possession of the best public hall on the Plains, was favoured once again with perfect weather for its tennis-ball. Needless to say, the affair wais an undoubted success. The music supplied by -the Paeroa orchestra was good ’ the Hoof was perfect, and the supper tended much :o the enjoyment of the “inner man,” Many and varied were the pretty dresses, and all the youth and beauty for miles around were hl attendance —over eighty couples in all. Extras were played by Miss J. Wallace, and Mr H. Mawkes as M.C. was everything that could be desired.
