e VESTING OF CONTROL. A BOARD ELECTED. A public meeting, convened by the chairman of the Town Board, was held in the Victoria Hall, Turua, on Wednesday evening to appoint a board to control the local domain as instructed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Mr J. Mules presided over an attendance of seventeen. A letter from the Commissioner to the Town Board was read by Mr J. E. Green. Mr Mules said that on a previous occasion a board had been appointed, but a', the time, unfortunately, the area was not legally a domain. In reply to Mr Porteous Mr Mules said that there was no chance of the area being controlled as a recreation reserve, The Town Board had endeavoured to secure this, but it was not possible owing to the area having become vested in the Crown. Many questions were answered bj the clerk of the Town Board, whe read extracts from the Domain Boards Act: Members of the board were appointed for a term of seven years. Ths board would have the right to lease the area and to make, charges for ad' mission on a limited number of days The board would have the right to expend any revenue deriveil withir limits proscribed by the Act. If J member of a local body such as the Town Board was also a member of the domain board that local body coule legally contribute towards the domair board funds. Mr J. Bennett moved that the chairman of the Town Board be an exofficip member. , Seconded by Mr G. Porteous anc carried. For the other six places the following gentlemen were nominated: Messrs G. Gray, G. Porteous, T. H. White, W Chapman, W. Elvin (junr.), J. T Davies. F. Olsen, and C. Scott. A ballot was held and the following were declared elected: Messrs G Gray, G. Porteous, T. H. White, W. C Chapman, J. T, Davies, and F. Olsen
