DISTRICT NEWS.

NETHjERTON. PRESENTATION. A happy evening was held at Netherton on Wednesday last, when the committee of. the Netherton Hall organised a dance and euchre tournament to mark the occasion of the approaching marriage of Mr W. Richmond, a member of the committee.

The first half of the evening was devoted to a euchre tournament, and competition was keen for the handsome prizes that were presented by the committee. Mrs B. Coldicutt carried off the first prize for ladies and Mr .Killgour was the winner in the inen’H competition.

During the evening a presentation of a dinner-set was made to Mr Richmond by Mr T. Vowles, on behalf of the committee. Mr Vowles congratulated die guest of the evening on the step tiiat lie was about to take and expressed hearty good wishes for his future happiness and welfare, and asked him to accept the presentation from the members as a slight token of appreciation of services rendered and the esteem in which he was held. • Mr Richmond suitably responded. After a delicious supper had been partaken of the hall was cleared and an enjoyable dance was held, the gathering finally dispersing with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne.” KAIHERE. LIBRARY CONCERT. Although the weather conditions were by no means favourable a very enjoyable concert, followed by x dance, was given to a crowded hall at Kaihere on Friday last. Kaihere now possesses a library, and the function was arranged for the purpose of augmenting the funds for the purchase of more books, with the result that the round sum of £l3 was taken. The items were given by talent uf Kaihere and Patetonga and Mr Brooker, of Ngatea, and were enthujsiastically applauded. It is regrettable that this progressive little corner of the Plains for many months of the year is cut off from the main portion by the impassable state of the connecting roads. Fortunately, however, the road over the hill connecting with the rail at Ohinewai has been exceptionally good this winter and has afforded a good outlet.
