PAEROA BOROUGH.
WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT. PROGRESS FOR THE . MONTH. The following report on the work for the month was received from the Works Committee at the Paeroa Borough Council meeting on Thursday ‘■The principal work during the past month was the rolling and scarifying of roads. Tills work pn Station Road proved expensive because a heavy coat of new metal was required. This road and the swamp portion of Thames Road were very soft and wet, and it wan not possible to make a first-class job without a great deal more metal. But the. shape of these roads is greatly improved, and it is intended to rake in and patch any bad places when weather conditions are suitable, and the roads should be then in fair order. “We regret that owing to the impossibility of getting metal it was not possible to finish Station Road hnd Thames Road, or go on with the scarifying. Every effort was made in all directions, and the stack of metal which we had for bitumen work was used. It was therefore decided to return the roller, we were not getting results commensurate with the cost. “Station Road will be finished when metal can be otbained and the other roads patched as fast as material can be got ; but the problem of getting suitable material, is a real one, because on every hand there is a great demand for road metal. “The 2in service pipe, as recommended by the foreman, should be put in on the western side of Belmont Road. The footpath will then be ready for tarring and sanding- when the good weather comes,”
