WAITAKARURU, HOCKEY. - • A very enjoyable dance was organised by the Waitakaruru Ladies’ Hockey Club and held in the Public Hall on Thursday evening last. The ideal weather conditions prevailing, the long period that has elapsed since the last dance in the district, the reputation gained by the club for its functions, and the object to which the funds were to go all tended to induce a big gathering. The hall, was delightfully decorated with paper streamers and foliage, and as each dancer was supplied with a jazz cap of bright coloured paper the effect was striking. The floor was in splendid order, and good dance music was supplied by a local orchestra. After a dainty supper had been handed round the dance wap carried on with enthuciasm until na early hour. On Saturday, last the ladies’ hockey team journed to Thames and played a match with the Huia club team. The game ended in an easy win for the Waitakaruru girls, who scored six times. The Thames team did not score. As a result of the splendid exhibition given by the visitors three of them, Misses Bestic, Prestbn, and Jessen, have been picked to play with the Thames representative team against Auckland on August 16. The Waitakaruru club is endeav-. ouiing to arrange matches with other outside teams, and hopes to play Waihi in, the future.
