PLAINS-COUNTY.
■ - INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The county inspector, Mr W. J. Clare, reported to the council on Tuesday last as follows : “The concrete foundation for the machinery depot has been completed, and the framework is ready for lifting into position. The concrete posts and kerbs in front of the county office are practically completed. The old county office has been shifted to a site near the bridge and alterations made to make a four-roomed building for the bridgekeeper. The erection of a hut for the new county engineer will be dealt with in a few days. “Buildings permits to the value of £4299 have been issued. These were for two churches, additions to a hall, a flaxmil) shed, a six-roomed house, three three-roomed houses, several additions to houses, and five cowsheds. “Eight vehicle licenses have been issued and a few dogs registered, bringing the total number of dogs to 801. License fees collected during the month total £25. “Numerous complaints in reagrd to straying stock, etc., have been receivn ed and a’ fair number have been impounded. Complaints concerning dead stock have been dealt with, and offenders have been warned .that sledging on roads is not permitted. “During the month a letter was received from a person in Auckland asking for authority to erect boilingdown works in the county. This was refer)ed to the Health Department. “A heavy motor lorry and trailer took a load of timber from Paeroa to Turn;’, and investigations arc being made ’’ The report was adopted and the in-< spectoi instructed to make further inquiries In .connection with the bread) of the by-laws mentioned.
