PAEROA BOROUGH.

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING. ; The regular meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall presiding over Crs. E. Edwards, J. W. Silcock, P. E. Brenan, F. E. Flatt, H. M. Shand, and the town clerk (Mr W. C. Alexander). LOAN OF £5OOO. The State Advances Office wrote acknowledging receipt of the application for a loan of £5OOO and stated th a t the department would advise when it was prepared to consider the application. MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE. The secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand advised that the next conference would be held in Auckland in October, and that remits required to be in the hnads of the secretary before August 31. Cr. Brenan said that he was wondering if a remit could be forwarded in connection with municipal liquor licenses. Jr. Flatt thought the matter did not, concoi n tlie association, to which the Mayor agreed. The letter was tabled. AORANGI ROAD. Tlie architectural branch of the NZ. Railways telegraphed that Aorargi Road was impassable and asking for improvements to be effected as building operations ut the railway settlement were being seriously hamp.red. In a later communication the council was thanked for its efforts. The Mayor stated that on receipt of tlie telegram he took the matter up and by putting chains on the wheels of his car he was able to drive right to tlie site. The council had done everylhing reasonable to assist the dcpai intent, having due. consideration for th„ other pressing works in the borough. STRAYING STOCK. The Paeroa Beautifying So’ciety wrote drawing attention to the fact that stock was straying about the street.- at nights and damaging the society’s garden plots. The Mayor said that the ranger had been instructed to take'action. EXTENSION OF SEWER. Mr W. M. Innes applied for an extension of the sewer to his residnece in Nahum Street. —Referred to the chairmen of the works and finance committees. WATER SUPPLY. The Clerk of the Court applied to have the water system at the courthouse inspected, and stated that the water was muddy and undrinkable. It was reported that the foreman had attended to the matter. Mr J. Coote, Paeroa, wrote that as' she was unable to let or. lease her house on the Waihi Road owing to its danger of being flooded from the river, she wished to have the water supply cut off and to be relieved of paying water charges. It was agreed to cut off the water amjj charge no water rate for this year. IMPOUNDING NOTICE. The following resolution was passed : ’ Pursuant to section 41 of the Impounding Act, 1908, public notice is hereby given that each or any Friday in any year are the days appointed for the holding of sales at the Paeroa public pound.” PUKE FOOTPATH. Cr. Silcock drew attention to the bad state of the footpath and crossing on Pure Road near Rush’s and asked for something to be done.—Referred to the foreman for attention. BASIN AT FIRE STATION. Cr. Flatt asked if the washrhasin could be moved from its present location in the dressing shed into the fire station proper, in view of the fact that two firemen were sleeping on the premises. The Mayor pointed out that the basin had been installed where requested by the brigade, and it was estimated that it would ebst £l2 to remove it. It was decided to have the alteration made as funds permitted.
