MEETING OF TRUSTEES. A meeting of the trustees of the Ohinemuri Public Library was held on Friday evening, Mr W. D. Nicholas (president), Mrs A. Thorp (secretary), Miss M. Shaw, Messrs W. Marshall, G. H. Blackburn, W. L. Lawrence, and W. H. Blakeway being present. KARANGAHAKE SUBSCRIBERS. The president reported on the steps taken in connection with the' establishment of a branch library at Karangahake, and stated .that there were some thirty subscribers in that local* ity. The action of the president and secretary in the matter was approved. After sojne discussion it was decided to make the Karangahake librarian an honorary subscriber in recognition of services rendered. It was decided to invite the Karangahake subscribers to elect a delegate to represent them at the meetings. ■ GIFT OF BOOKS. The secretary reported that a legacy of some fifty books had been received from the late Judge H. D. Johnston (a foundation member of the Ohinemuri Library) through a firm of Auckland solicitors. The books had been received and comprised for the most part works of reference. THEFTS FROM LIBRARY. Regret was expressed at the numerous thefts that have been committed from the library. CONTROL BY BOROUGH. The sub-committee appointed to go into the question of allowing the Borough Council to take over control of the library from the trustees submitted the following report, which was approved: “We recommend that the Ohinemuri Library (Inc.), with its assets, be handed over to the-Paeroa Borough Council on the following conditions : That the Council undertakes to make provision for a site and buildings for a public library. That the Council agree to appoint annually a commit,tee of seven members, three members to be nominated by the Council and four members elected by an annual meeting of the subscribers to the library. Such committee to elect their own chairman, who must be a member of the committee, and appoint a secretary and a librarian. Said com mittee shall have general control and management of the library. The committee shall recommend to the Council the necessary by-laws, and the committee ishall have the right to have their recommendations adopted in regard to membership fees. The Borough Council to make an annual grant for the library, and the finances generally shall be controlled by the committee as at present, subject to the necessity to bank all monies and pay all accounts through the town clerk. Any alterations in these condition;. only to be made by a resolution carried by a majority of the subscribers at a meeting specially called to consider any proposed alteration.” It was decided to call a special general meeting and submit the proposals. LADIES’ REST-ROOM. It was agreed to co-operate with the Borough Council in its efforts to provide and equip a ladies’ rest-room in the building beside the library. NEW BOOKS. The secretary reported that thirtysix new books had been purchased and put into circulation.
