PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa 'District High School Committee was held on Saturday evening, when there were present: Mesisrs E. E. Gillman (chaiiman), H. J. Hayward, W. T. Power, C. T. Mettam, R. Thorp, W. Purdie, C. H. Pascoe, and W. L. Lawrence (secretary). The headmaster, Mr G. H. Taylor, was also in attendance. PROPOSED MANUAL SCHOOL. The supervisor of manual and technical education, Auckland, wrote qnclosing a plan of part of the technical high school site, showing that an area of 250 links by 240 links was to be the site of the proposed manual i,school. He asked the committed to select the site and forward levels of same, so as plans and specifications could be prepared by the board’s architect immediately. The matter was referred to the chairman, Messrs Power and Purdie, and the secretary, with power to act. LEVELLING PLAYGROUND. In response to the committee’s request the board replied that it had authorised a grant of £2O towards the cost of levelling the boys’ playground. YOUNG CITIZENS’ LEAGUE. The organising secretary of the Young Citizens’ League- wrote stating that he and Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M., hoped to visit Paeroa shortly, when the., would be pleased to conduct the i ni: i:;tten service of candidates for admission to the league. The headmaster reported that theie wore about 100 pupils awaiting initiation. VISITING COMMITTEE. On the recommendation of the report ci the visiting committee it was decided to paint the wooden fence dividing the preparatory children’s pl.iv f ,r-.und from the boys’ area, and also to engage a man to attend to the paths and remove the fence round the school gardens to a position ten feet horn the edge of Mr Rickard’s hedge. Simpson, Kennedy Street, Paeroa, J a.l offered to donate some shrubs, .to be ’..Fed in beautifying the manual school site. The offer was gratefully accepted. SCHOOL LIBRARY. The headmaster reported that a sum of £34 had been raised by children’s concerts for the purpose of purchasing books and providing cupboards for the school library. The secretary was instructed to forward the money and apply for the usual subsidy. Tim matter of purchasing the books for the library was left in the hands of the headmaster, with power to act. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £ll 17s 6d on the school fund and £l3 18s 6d on ground improvements fund were passed for payment. CONDOLENCE. A vote of condolence was accorded Mr Hayward on the death of his mother, the motion being carried in silence.
