POLICE COURT.
MONDAY, AUGUST 1. 1924. breaches of defence act. At the Paeroa Police Court on Monday, oefore Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., John Nat. Prenter, stable hand, Paeroa, was charged with failing to attend parades of the 45th Company Senior Cadets, and also with failing to notify the Defence authorities of hie change of address. Defendant was convicted and fined £l, and costs 7s, on each charge. Henry Lawrence Stokes,, labourer, Paero.*, was charged with failing to attend parades of the senior cadets and.was convicted and fined £l, and 7s. BREACH OF ARMS ACT. Athelstan Vaughan Keighly, linesman, Paeroa. was charged with having a 22 calibre Winchester pea-rifle and a 22 calibre Remington rifle and failing to notify his change of address from Timaru to Paeroa, as required under the Arms Act, 1920. Def.-ndant pleaded guilty, and stat-, cd that .the offence had been committed in ignorance. Constable McClinchy said that the arms had been registered, and at defendant’s request one of the rifles had been confiscated but the other one could not be found. As the defendant had suffered the loss o.” the rifle His Worship said he would merely convict him and order him to pay costs.
