DRAY CAPSIZES.
PLAINS SETTLER INJURED. LUCKY ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. As Mr E. Dally, a settler on the Hauraki Plains, was driving along Hui ran Road yesterday afternoon he met with an accident which, only by good fortune, was not attended by fatal results, Lt appears that Mr Dally was re-> turning to hie home with a drayload of posts and fencing material., when by some means one wheel of the dray got off the metal portion of the road into the marsh at the side, with the result that the vehicle capsized. Mr Dally was thrown into the roadside drain, where he was buried by the load of posts from the dray. The horse was thrown on its back, and it was only the struggles of the animal from time, to time moving the load that prevented Mr Dally from being drowned, as he was weighted down and unable to move, and his head and body were partially buried in the mud and water. Fortunately some roadmen came along shortly after the accident and quickly cut the horse free, righted the dray, and extricated Mr Dally from his precarious position. The unfortunate man was utterly exhausted and collapsed. Dr. Valentine was summoned, and after examining Mr Dally he found l that the sufferer had sustained a dis-i located shoulder and severe bruises.
Mr Dally was conveyed to the Thames Hospital, where he is making satisfactory progress. ’
