PICTON TO AUCKLAND.

OVER 600 MILES BY LAUNCH. SAN LUIS MAKES THE TRIP. After a trip of more than 600 miles the launch San Luis arrived in Aucto land the other day from Picton, via way ports, as they say in the shipping columns. She is a big, powerful-look-ing craft, 40 feet long by 11 feet beam, and five feet draught, and the power is supplied by a 30 horse-power Twigg three-cylinder engine. She has only been in commission about five months. It is some seven weeks since the San Luis left Picton, and as she was on pleasure bent it was not necessary to push through, and, moreover, she had been detained now and again owing to the weather. On the long journey the San Luis called in at Wellington, Napier, Wairoa, Gisborne, and Tauranga, the lastm’entioned place being reached on Tuesday afternoon of last week. The longest stretch she covered without calling in was the run from Wellington to Napier, 211 miles, which she did against wind and sea in 32 hours. She is a very good sea boat, extremely handy, being what is known as a "one man control” launch —that is,, the mini at the wheel can also control the engine. Particulars of these engines will be gladly supplied by Mr G. Mincer, ot Shortland Wharf, Thames South*
