FOOTBALL.
THAMES VALLEY UNION. COMING MATCHES. The Thames Valley Rugby Union met in the Paeroa Returned Soldiers' Club on Monday last, the following attending: Dr. W. R. Lawrence (chairman) and Messrs Geaney and Forest, Piako ; Wroe, McPherson, and Callaghan, Waihi; Porteous, Thompson, and Banks, Plains; Brenan, Mettam, and Shand, Paeroa; and the secretary, Mr W. Smith. It was decided to distribute the 1924 season’s school grant among the four sub-unions.
Messrs Berryman (Waihi), Allen (Piako), and Wilkinson (Paeroa) were elected selectors pf the representatives.
It was decided to accept the date of July 19, as submitted by the Waikato Union, for the Thames Valley-Waikato match at Waihi.
In the junior cdhipetition it was resolved to play a knock-out round, July 26 being the date fixed for the first match, Paeroa v. Waihi, at Paeroa.
The secretary, was instructed to write to the Auckland Union and endeavour to arrange a match.
The second round ofl the Frank Poland Memorial Cup competition was set down to commence on August 2. Tn connection with the suggested North Auckland match, nothing was done as the union was still awaiting a reply from the North Auckland Union. PAEROA RUGBY UNION. COMMITTEE MEETING. The weekly meeting ofi the Paeroa Rugby Union Committee was held tn the Dressing Shed on Tuesday night, the following members being present • Messrs C. T. Mettam, W. Walsh, W. Morrison, F. G. Otter, and the secretary, Mr C. H. Butcher, in the absence of Mr P. E. Breanan Mr Mettam took the chair. REGISTRATIONS. The following players were registered : P. Pullar, Netherton seniors ; L. Morris, East seniors ; J. Floyd and P. Connolly, School third-grade. E. Robson was regraded from junior to thirdgrade in the East club. . A PROTEST. A protest was received from the Netherton club against. East in the junior match last Saturday on the grounds that East played R. Couper, who plays under the Thames Union. The committee held that a schoolboy residing in the district was entitled to play for his club even though he attended and played for a school under another union, and the protest was dismissed. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £l4 2s were passed for payment. TO-MORROW’S FIXTURES. The following matches were set down for to-morrow :— Seniors. —East v: West, at Paeroa , Netherton v. Suburbs, at Hikutaia. Juniors.—East v. Karangahake, at Karangahake ; Netherton v. Suburbs, at Netherton : West a bye. Third-grade.—School v. West, at 1.45 p.m. APPRECIATION. The .secretary was instructed to convey to the Hauraki Plains Union and lady supporters this union’s appreciation of the treatment accorded the Paeroa footballers on Saturday last. REFEREE’S RULINGS. A complaint was received to the effect that the referee who conducted the West v. Suburbs junior match at Hikutaia last Saturday did not enforce the latest rules. It was decided to refer the matter to the Referees’ Association.
