ALLEGED THEFT.

POSTAL OFFICIAL IN TROUBLE. REMANDED FOR EIGHT DAYS. A youth, aged 17 years, employed at the Paeroa post office, was arrested yesterday by Constable McClinchy on a charge of having stolen a letter containing a cheque for the sum of £7 13s Bd, the property of the Post-master-General. Accused was brougnt before Mr F. E. Flatt, J.P., at the local court yesterday afternoon and, on the application of the police, was remanded for eight days, during which time he was to remain under the care of his niothet. Bail was granted on one surety of £lOO by his mother and one of £5O by himself.

It is understood that alarge number of other charges are pending. Accused has confessed to other thefts, and is assisting the postmaster to trace them.
