STREET PERILS.
TOLL Of LONDON TRAFFIC. TWO PEOPLE KILLED A DAY. On the average two persons are killed and about 180 injured in the streets of London every day. This revelation is made in statistics issued by Scotland Yard. During the first three months of this year 175 persons were Killed in the Metropolitan Police area and 16,516 were taken to hospital. , During the first three months last year the number of street fatalities was 149. The figure for the last three months of 1923 was 189. “Since the end of the war there has been an alarming increase in the number of street accidents all ovei the country,” the secretary of the National “Safety First" Association told a “Daily Mail” reporter. “Since 1918 the yearly number of accidents in London has been doubled.” Ho added that the number of women victims of .street accidents is comparatively small, as women, being more nervous than men, more frequently use street “islands.”
