ELECTRIC POWER.

THAMES VALLEY BOARD’S WOBK. MANAGER’S REPORT. At yesterday's meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board the manager, Mr R. Sprague, reported as follows : With reference to the recent judgment of the magistrate in Auckland regarding the fire due to defective installation at the City Markets, Auckland, which places the responsibility for any defective installation upon the supply authority, this board has in all four inspectors, under one chief inspector. Four of the inspectors superr ise the work during the installation, testing and certifying to same after completion, while the other inspector is testing and watching installation after they have been made alive. The latter is continually employed on this work only. An injunction was lodged by Farrow in the Supreme Court against the board erecting poles on his property situated at No. 1 Road, Waitoa. This was heard at the Supreme Court, Hamilton, on June 24 and 25, and the Judge reserved his finding. The chairman, engineer, and manager attended the Court, but the application confined itself to legal argument nV both parties. In the meantime this work cannot be proceeded with. It is of a very urgent nature, and is necessary to give a supply to a large consumer, and also to increase the supply to the Springdale and Eastport Road districts. Wardville.—On June 27 the engineer and manager met the settlers in the Wardville district with reference to the supply of power along Wardville Road from the Gordon to Ngarua road. All the settlers interested attended the meeting and further consumers were signed up, which now makes this road payable. I would recommend that atuhority be given for the construction of this line, conditionally upon power being available from the Public Works Department to enable a supply to be given. This condition was pointed out to the settlers. Patetonga District. —The canvass of this district has now been completed, and from the figures is payable. This line can now be extended from Maungateparu through Tahuna, Patetonga, Kailiere, anad Torehape, linking up with Ngatea, which will make a serviceable loop line. The authority for the construction of this line would also be conditional upon power being available from the Public Works Department. Okoroire-Hinuera Valley Road — This road has now been canvassed, and warrants reticulation. The line can be authorised conditionally upon power being available. Week’s Road, Waharoa—The canvass of this road Shows a deficit of £1(1, which is equivalent to 9 per cent, deficiency. Consumers—There are 4191 consumers connected to the mains, including Te Aroha and Thames boroughs. The number of motors installed on farms and working is 898, of which 812 are milking motors, 15 of which have been connected, together with. 38 lighting and heating consumers, during .the month. There are also 229 motors on meters. Quite a number of farmers are having motors installed now, in order to be ready for the appoaching milking season. It is estimated that a further 100 2-li.p. motors will be connected to the mains when the season starts. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer’s report included the following : Ngatea-Waitakaruru—Good progress has been made on this section, notwithstanding the edverse weather conditions. Ou Orchard West Road poles have been erected to the end of the settlement. Poling has been completed on Rawerawe Road East, Hopai Road East, and from Ngatea right round to Pipiroa. Pole-Erecting- is proceeding from the Ngatea-Pipiroa road junction towards Waitakaruru, over a mile being already erected. Canal Road, Ngatea—An extension of the 11,000-volt pole line was made during the period to connect further consumers.

Orchard East Road.—ln order to pick up additional load the low tension has been extended 36 chains from McDuff’s transformer.
