Five building permits to the total value of £325 were issued at last night's meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council.
A defendant in the Timaru Magistrate's Court stated that when he ran into some people in the middle of a suburban road he told them that" the road was for horses and bicycles, not for pedestrians (relates the "Post”). “That’s where you were wrong,” said Mr E. Counter-lunches came up for discussion during the hearing of a. case at the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court (reports the “Press”). A witness .stated that a counter-lunch was put on consisting of baked potatoes, rissoles, sausage rolls .or lambs' fry. The Magistrate; ‘‘Do you make a charge for these lunches ?” The witness replied that counter-lunch was free. The Magistrate (inquiringly) ’, “Let me see, where is this hotel ?”

The annual sale of work on behalf of the Young People’s Missionary Union is to be held to-morrow at St. Paul’s Parish Hall.
