HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
THAMES VALLEY BOARD. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board was held at Tc Aroha on Tuesday last, there being present: Messrs F. H. Claxton (chairman), C. A. Arthur, F. M. Strange, J. B. Thomas, J. Price, J. Pohlen, ajud W. Howie. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.
On the motion of Mr Pohlen and Mr Arthur Mr F. H, Claxton was unanimously re-elected chairman. Mr. Claxton suitably returned thanks for the continued confidence reposed in him. He took it that the reappointment was an indication that his colleagues had not altogether been displeased with his past actions. The operations for the past year had been exceedingly satisfactory, and the board was now getting down to the normal stride. Other boards had expressed a deep sense of gratitude to the Thames Valley Board for its assistance. The board had been an example to the rest of the boards in New Zealand. It was a very harmonious one, aiul all had worked to the satisfaction of the ratepayers.
Mi - Arthur moved that Mr F, M. Strange be elected deputy-chairman, and in doing so. contended that the board had been successfully negotiatd and managed in its initial stages. Mr Thomas seconded the motion, which was carried.Mr Strange returned thanks. / ' REPORTS. Speaking in regard to the reports read by the chairman, engineers, and manager, Messrs Strange, Price, Thomas, Pohleh, and Howie congratulated those responsible for the splendid work achieved during the year. In this respect the ratepayers were well .satisfied. Speaking in regard to selling current in bulk, Mr Price asked for actual revenue to be derived from towns, as the information would be very important. Mr Pohlen considered that the success of the board was assured. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the reports, said that particular care had been taken in each report to obviate over-lapping. He referred particularly to the good work carried out by the staff, who turned out night or day, wet or fine, and carried out necessary urgent'repairs. The reports were adopted. DAIRY CO. SUPPLIES. The N.Z. Dairy Co. wrote accepting the rate and conditions proposed by tlie board for one year for the company's factories at Waitoa, Waharoa. Te Awamutu, and other factories sucn as Paeroa and Ngatea, when fully electrified. RETICULATING WAIHI. The Waihi Borough Council wrote stating that the council had unanimously agreed to the board’s proposals and desired the board to reticulate the town at the earliest possible moment. REQUEST FROM WAHAROA. A request from Messrs Gill, W. Symons, and A. E. Polglase, Waharoa, for power was received. The applicants were intailing machines in anticipation. It was agreed to proceed with the request when further confirmation was available. INCREASED CHARGES. The secretary of the Tatuanui Hall Committee, Mr A. J. Skinner, asked the board to exempt the committee from the 50 per cent, increase in charges for lighting, otherwise to instai a meter. The chairman said the board would be well protected by installing a meter. ADDITIONAL STREET LIGHT, The Morrinsvillc Borough Council asked for an additional .street light to be erected at the intersection of Hamilton and Boundary streets — Agreed to. ANNUAL LEAVE. The manager, Mr R. Spiague, was granted his annual leave of absence. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Messrs C. A. Arthur, J. B. Thomas, G. Price, F, E. Flatt, F.- M. Strange, and the chairman were appointed a finance committee.
