Un Saturday morning heavy fell, but by 1 P.m. the weather cleaved. A southerly wind asslste din drying the ground, and a tine aTternooi prevailed. There was a slightly larger attendance at the Domain than on the previous Saturday, aud those present were treated to a good afternoon's sport. EAST V. NETHERTON. The senior match attracted considerable attention, and both teams were well supported by the public. As is usually the case, the game was late n slatting, and when the teams even tually took the field East had a deficiency of two, but the full complement was made up soon after the game commenced. Suburbs had by far the heavier team, and the forwards worked together wen. The Eart pack was weak in the tight, but the backs compensated in the open play, and a fair exhibition of Rugby wa-' witnessed. The teams were as follows :— Netherton. —G. Puller, J. Maloney. V. Hopping. R. Wratt, T. Puller, W. Potter. L. Rice, R. Morrison. L. Killgour. L. Fisher. E. Fisher, G. Fisher. H. Morrison. T. Richmond, E. Johnson. Eart—A. Wiliams. W. Smith, E. Moore, F. Rolleston, G. Royal, D. Smith. H. Bloomfield, J. Graham, F. Patterson. J. Benney, F. Fitch, Jack Treanur. F. Thorp. H. Pennell, M. Pennell, .Netl'erimi kicked off and carried pkv up-field, where a scrum was <ir<!e.rc(l. Netherlon clayed a passing rush, but Royal intercepted and sew. to Smith, -who found the line, A short term of line play ensued, founinatinp in D. Smith securing and making a good inn. only to be tackled bn the line. Netherton forced. In tight plav following the drop-out H. Pennell took the ball and after a sho)t run passed to Moere, to Royal, to D. Smith, wlu scored a try near the corner.. The kick by Rolleston failed. . East 3. Nethei ton 0. From the kick-out East continued io press, but the weight *’l the Netherton forwards, who were plavjng a fast, open game, frustrate l the attack. For some time in the second quarto- play was restricted to neutral territory, and neither side showed out ve-y much until D. Smith secured the ball, and after a good run just failed to get over. A penalty to Netherton brought relief. Play was returned to midfield, and Netherton for-z wards were forcing the pace and looked like scoring, but Mooie clearei. The ball was carried to Netherton’; twenty-five line, from where Moore su"cceded with a penalty kick at goal. East 6. Netherton 0. Netherton warmed up and went on. the attack, but a good line kick by Royal cleared for East. From the line-out Netherton instituted a forward rush, the ball going over the line. East forced. Netherton continued to attack, and from a scramble R. Morrison took a. penalty kick, but it was unsuccessful. From the drop-out play was carried into Nctiierton’s twenty-five and Royal made a good attempt to get over, out he was not supported and the ball was sent out. An exchange of kicks followed the opening of the game after half-time-From a line-out at halfway East forwards sent to Moore, to Rolleston, to Royal, who carried into Netherton’e twenty-five. Netherton forwards worked back again, and after a brief bout of toward play in neutral territory Notherton sent over the line and East to' ced. Loose play ensued, and several rushes by East were blocked by the Netherton forwards. Jack Trcanor had tn retire, being replaced by Jim Treaiior later in the game. In 100-’C fo> ward play near Netherton's line J., Benny picked up and dived for the line, scoring for East. The kick Moore went outside die po t,s. Eas9, Netherton 9. in the la*t quarter Netherton rallied, and after tight play in East's te; rito'y the defending forwards opened up and the backs carried on to Netherton's line, a force resulting. Tight play followed, Netherton beings kept on the defence, and East again sent over the line, for a force. Shortly afterwards Moore took a penaltv kick at goal, but the ball fell, short. Time was called without any further points being added. East 9 Netherton 0. ’ Mr R. B. Peniington was referee. WEST V. SUBURBS. The West v. Suburbs match played at Hikutaia, the visitors ning by 9 points to 6. Tries were scored for West by J. Walmsley a’n T W. Taylor, and L. Shaw kicked a penalty goal. For Suburbs E. Samson scored and R. Samson kicked a penalty goal. Air B. Neil was referee. JUNIORS. WEST V. BAST. This was a fair game, and both teams showed improvement in form. E-ist were never seriously troubled by- their opponents, and won by 6 to 0. H. Moore kicked a penalty goal and scored a try. Early in the last quarter an East played named Gage was ordered off the field for rough play. Mr F. W. Pitts was referee. THIRD-GRADE. WEST V. COMBINED TEAM. The West boys had no difficulty in disposing of their opponents, the* scores being; West 15, Combined Team 0. For the home team hiefu were scored by Spinks (2), A. Tetley, and Gunn, and Swann kicked a P® n * alty goal. Mr W, NealUe was referee, ;
