FOOTBALL RULING.
Sir, —Since the Paeroa Rugby Usion reverted to the rules of the New Zealand Rugby Union there has been considerable discussion on a certain ruling given by local referees. It was thought that with regard to a.“mark" or "fair catch" our ruling was still that of the Auckland amendments, but allow me, for the benefit of players, public, and referees alike, :o quote from the N.Z. Referees’ Association handbook of last year: “If r player makes and claims a fair catch a free kick shall be awarded, even though the whistle has blown for '< knock-on or throw-forward. The kick shall be taken by the player making the fair catch. If the player making the fa r catch, and claiming a mark, be injured in catching the bdR, mid has to''leave the' field, the referee shall nominate another player on the same side to take the kick.”' R. B. PENLINGTON.
