FOOTBALL.
PAEROA RUGBY UNION. ANOTHER LIVELY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held on Wednesday evening, the chairman, Mr W. T. Power, presiding. There were present : Messrs W. Marshall, C. T. Mettam. H. M. Shand, W. Fennell, J. Clarke, C. H. Potter, J. Johnson, and W. Morrison. Delegates and members of the various clubs attended, and the meeting throughout was of a lively i ature, the chairman having a busy time keeping order. SUSPENSION OF G. ROYAL. The East Club wrote asking the union to reconsider its decision to suspend G. Royal. Royal was present and on the mat ter being opened for discussion he stated his case, showing that he had been boarding in Paeroa for the last eighteen months, and therefore considered that he was justified in playing for East. Corroborative evidence as to his boarding in the town for the term mentioned was given by W. Nicholls. Mr Sliand contended that on the . face of the evidence adduced and his interpretation of the rules Royal was entitled to play for East. Mr Clarke supported. Mr Potter opposed the two previous speakers, aiid contended that the boundary rules as laid down must be enforced, otherwise the system might as well be done away with at once. At this stage several degelates commenced asking questions and engaged in- cross-talk. Mu Mettam drew the attention of the chairman to the rule concerning delegates at union meet ' ings, and the chairman intimated to the meeting that the delegates had no right io speak unless requested to do so; Mr Marshall thought it would be in (he interests of football geneially if the committee' took a vote on the question-of where Royal should plaj. and so finish the discussion. Mr Clarke moved that Royal should play for East. Seconded by Mr.Shand. Mr Potter moved an amendment to the effect that the. union should uphold the boundary rules, under whicn Royal was eligible to play for Suburbs only. Mr Johnson seconded. The chairman ruled that tha amendment was a direct negative and could not be put. The motion was carried by four votes to three, the chairman not voting. z Mr Shand moved .that Royal s susl ension should be rescinded. Seconded by Mr Pennell and carried. Dealing with the disqualification of L. and A. Thomas, it was decided to i move the disqualification of both players and allow them tn play for J>ist on completion of the first round. . No action was taken in regard to U’oomfield. BIRCH CUP. in reply to the union the Thames Va’ley Union wrote intimating that bie Paeroa Rugby Union would be quite in order in entering a challenge j.>r the Birch Cup (Thames Union) under the Auckland amended rules. LECTURE ON RULES. Mr R. B. Penlington, secretary if the paeroa Referees’ Association, stared that he had received word frpm.thc Hamilton Referees' Association mti/hatihg its willingness to send a j rominent referee to Paeroa to deliver a lecture on Rugby Rules. He hoped t<- anangc the meeting for Friday, M iy 16, and asked that every player j ossible .should make a point of being p "esent. TIMEKEEPERS. Brewer ,GI homas, E. Rare, for Suburbs juniors; F. • Pivott and G. Pennell, for West uiors ; W. Potter (seniors), and E. Potter and E. R. Smith (regraded), f<>r Netlrerton. The following were approved for the Netherton quota of the combined Netherton and Suburbs third-grade team : R. H. Heappey, J. Heappey, SCraig, J. Johnson.'P. Paulsen, L. Harold, J. Vcrcoe, L. Vercoc, J. Green, B. G william. GENERAL. The Karangahake club was granted j>- mission to play its mate ties in Pae ■ r- a at 3.15 P.m., thereby allowing th.team to travel by train and save expense of conveyances. Mr P. E. Brenan was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy on the management committee caused by the resignation of Mr E. Shaw. The secretary reported that no money had been collected at Karangahake last Saturday, and Mr Clarke was deputed to attend to the matter. It was decided that all third-grade players should immediately present themselves to the union officials for the purpose of being weighed. SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. Seniors.—East v. Netherton. at Paeroa ; Suburbs v. West, rit Hikutaia. Juniors— Karangahake v. Suburbs, at Karangahake; East v. West, at Paeroa ; Netherton a bye. Third-Grade.—Suburbs and Nether-, ton v. West; East v. School ; bot.i matches at Paeroa. RESIGNATION. The meeting was brought tn a dioinatic conclusion about 10.30 p.m. by the chairman tendering his resignation to the union and srating that his reason for so doing was because of Hie lack of co-operation in coimectio!i with the interpretation of th-j vjbovn'iary rules.
