PLAINS MATCHES. NGATEA V. COAST. Although the United Coast Club was only granted affiliation on Thursday evening it was able to put forth a tenm to play against Ngatea on Saturday a.’.'d the game was one cf the best exhibitions of inter-club fodtball seen on the Plains. The teams were as follows :— Coast.—P. Clark. R. Green, B. WAllis /V. White, E. Hooper, L. James, ft, Bagent Ryan, H. Ualgety, S. Dalgety, D. Dalgety, W. O’Neil, L. Jepson. J, Coibett, Roy Green. Ngatea.—C. Wilton, G, Johansen, <1 Molloy, C. Stewart, K. Andrews, C. Ellis, F Nicoll, O. Robertson. W. Johnson, L, Sanders, R. Jobe, I* Lipscomb. ■. C. Rolton. G. Andrews, H. Stone. In the first quarter Ryan scored am! Wallis converted, and in the second Ngatea evened up the score witn a try by Ellis which Robertson converted. for the Coast team Ryan did splendid work, and appeared to bo worth two men. B. Wallis lias lost none a!’ his dash, and Clark, tlie full-baci:. was worth his place. The players arc a solid lot. and with more practice and some changes in positions will h? lia rd to beat. For the home team Ellis hack) and Lipscombe (forward) were conspicuous. Wilton is worthy of his plac*'* in the seniors, and Stewart is' an acquisition. Mr J. Reid was referee. WAITAKARURU V. KEREPEEHI. This match, which was played at Kerepeehi on grounds near the Lands' Department workshops, proved a loose fm ward game, as the wet state of the ball made it. impossible to handle with any degree of. accuracy. There was nothing very brilliant about the play, but the teams were about equal in strength and tlie scores, 3 all, were a fair indication. Herekino scored for Kerepeehi in the first spell and Clark evened up in the last few moments of the last quartci. Masters, as half-back in the home team was the outstanding player on the Held. The teams were as follows :— Waitakaruru. —:F. Barlow, Dibble, g. Stretton, H. A. Hamilton, L. Skellv, A, Otter, Walker, E. Laing, Sleep. Hunt, H. Coxhead, C. .Clark. G. Coxhead,- L. Berney, K. Williams. Kerepeehi.—Holman, J. Adlum. Hawcra, Murphy, G. Masters, W. Molloy, E. Masters, Merriman, Renata, Hurikino, Steadman, Nathan, T. Rapana, Tipa, T. Majurey. Mr J. N. Anderson was referee. THE JUNIOR GAME. This was also a loose, open game, Kerepeehi having the better backs. The Waitakaruru forwards played a good game and followed up well. Kerepeehi scored three tries to Waitakaruru’s one. Mita Watene, a Kerepeehi five-eighths, stood out conspicuously. Mr J Banks was referee. TURUA V. HAURAKI WEST. These teams . were very evenly matched, and a hard game resulted. Tt>rua had the better knowledge of the game, but the West players were heavier and gained the advantage in the tight play. In the open Turua showed up. In the first quarter Millington scored in a forward rush, and G. Be lford scored after a passing rush, H. Elvin converting. The teams were as follows:— West.—R. The juniors were evenly matched and the game was fast and clean. West pressed hard in the first half, and Turua attacked very hard during the last spell, hut neither side could cross the line, the game ending witn no score. Mr M. Leonard -was referee. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. WEEKLY’ MEETING. The regular meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees’ Association was held at Ngatca on Monday evening, Mr G T. Davidson presiding over an attendance of twelve members. It was decided to hold a smoke concert in the Ngatea Hall on Saturday evening to bid farewell to Mr D. A. Vincent and as a mark of appreciation of his services to football on the Plains Mr F. Stretton was welcomed back to tlie association. Ihe following referees were appointed for next Saturday : Hauraki YV''st v. Waitakaruru, at Waitakaruru: Messrs J. N. Andersn (seniors) and G T. Davidson (juniors). Kerepeehi v. Ngatea, at Ngatea : Messrs J. Reid (seniors) and M. Leonard (juniors). Turua v. United Coast, at Turua: Messrs F. Stretton- (seniors) and J. Banks (juniors). The reports of last Saturday’s matches were read and adopted. Several points of ruling were discussed at length, and ft was decided to write to the Thames Valley Association and ask the definition of a “trip,” and whether a player could trip an. opposing player with his hand, and also should a player be penalised under the score of dangerous play for hurdling.
