DRUIDS’ FUNCTION.

IN AID OF THE DISTRESSED. SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AND DANCE. Despite the fact that it has recently been considerably enlarged ths Driinds’ Hall was packed to the doors on Wednesday last, the occasion being a social and dance organised by the Star of Paeroa U.A.O.D, in aid of distressed druids. The manner in which the public accorded support to this cause is worthy of comment, and it is gratifying to learn that the local druids, led by their capable secretary, Mr W. Turner, will be in a position to hand over a substantial sum to the family in distress. The early part bf the evening was devoted to a euchre tournament, fourteen tables being accommodated. The competition was keen for the prizes, which had been donated ny various local business people. At the conclusion of the tournament P.D.P. Br >. J. T. Brown awarded the prizes as follows : Ladies’, Mrs McCullay, first; Mrs Rush, second; Mrs Robins, booby. Men, H. Hampton, first; C. Chisholm, second ; E. Sanderson, booby. Mr P. Angle was in charge of the tournament. The floor was then cleared for dancing, and'about twenty-five couples took part to the strains of inspiriting music supplied by Miss Jones (violin) and Mr F. Clark (piano). The floor, which ha,s recently been specially prepared for dancing, was in excellent, order, and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr J. Hill. A delicious supper was provided and served by the wives and friends of druids, after which a.short musical programme was submitted, the following taking part: Mrs T. Short (song). Miss B. Jones (violin solo), Sirs C. Mettam (song), Mr E. V, Slyfleld (recitations), and Mr W. Nicholls (song). Each item was encored. Dancing was continued until a late hour, and the local druids were subjected to hearty congratulations on ca’-rying out such a successful fiinctirn.
