THE RAILWAY SERVICE.

< COMMENCED YESTERDAY. NORMAL CONDITIONS OBTAIN. Yesterday morning the 6.40 ll’-ai-i left fo- Hamilton. This was the first train to leave Paeroa since the railway strike was declared off at midnight on Easter Monday. The train was well patronised, and there was no outward demonstration < o the par', of the public or railwaymen as the train pulled out of the station. There is, of course, a general feeling of relief that the railway strike has been settled and the normal services resumed, Paeroa has been very fortunate in that the interruption of the railway service has made little, if anv. material difference to the business of the town, owing to the natural advantages provided by waterways. A visit to the station yesterday revealed the usual scene of bustle, the railway workers were observed going about their various duties as usual, and there was no mention of the strike. The Auckland-Thames ex press yesterday reached Paeroa on schedule time, and was an exceptionally peavy train, carrying a large number of passengers, many of whom were returning from distant parts where they have had a prolonged holiday owing to the suddenness of the strike. As yet there has not been a great increase in goods traffic, but it is expected that each train will carry an increase of goods until the congestion at the various railway terminii is relieved. The normal train service has been resumed so far as Paeroa Junction is concerned.
