A protest was lodged by the Suburbs Club against the East Club for playing G. Royal ni its senior team against Suburbs last Saturday. Suburbs requested that the match be not awarded to East, as it was contended that Royal w as not eligible to play for East under the boundary system. Mr Morrison supported the protest, and slated that he had no' particular brief for the Suburbs club. He thought that the boundary system should be strictly adhered to or else thrown out altogether. He pointed out that the Suburbs team had taken the field on Saturday last under protest on account of the player, who. tie contended, rightly belonged to the Suburbs club. Mr Shaw said that he had been partly responsible for Royal playing for East, because he was of the opi iion that the player had complied with the boundary regulations in that he was residing in Paeroa prior to and after the annual meeting of the union. A lively discussion took place as to the interpretation of the rules governing the. boundaries and the question of Royal’s eligibility to play foi East. Mr Mettam suggested that the matter should be held over until next week, when Royal would be asked to attend the meeting. Mr Potter objected, saying that Royal was aware that a protest was being lodged, and the onus was on him to attend. On the motion of Mr Potter, seconded by Mr Morrison, the protest was sustained, Mr Shaw dissenting. Arising put of the protest, Mr Potter moved that the match East v. Subui os be replayed at a later date. Seconded by Mr Mettam and carried. Mr Potter contended that the East Cl ib had played a League player in G. Nei!. and on those grounds moved that the match be- awarded to Suburbs. Mr Johnson seconded. After a lengthy discussion the motion was put, and on the casting vote of the chairman w-as carried. Mr Potter also took exception to_ the East Club playing Bloomfield, who, he contended, was resident outside the club’s boundary, but no further action was taken. With regard to the East v. Karangahake junior match, Mr Potter took ex- 1 ei'Ption to the East Club playing the Thomas brothers. After a long discussion the decision ai ’ived at was that they rightly belonged to the Suburbs club. The chairman .said that they were unregistered players, and had apparently deceived the referee (Mr E. Moore | and the secretary, and he moved that they be stood on the tine for a period of three months from date. Seconded by Mr Mettam and carried. The same penalty was inflicted on G. Royal. MARKING OF GROUNDS. On the recommendation of the Referees’ Association the Netherton Club asked to clearly mark out its football ground. TIMEKEEPERS. of the public evading payment of admission to the ground. The chairman said that the. public could not. be compelled to pay, but he thought few people would refuse to do so. It was agreed that officials should make every endeavour to collect admission fees, RESIGNATION. Mr E. Shaw tendered his resignation from the committee. Although pressed to change his attitude, he refused to reconsider, his decision, COMBINED TEAM. West, at Paeroa, EAST CLUB MEETING. •DECISION TO CARRY ON. A special meeting of members and supporters of the East Club was held last evening, Mr C. T. Mettam presiidng over a large attendance. The chairman explained that the meeting had been called 10 discuss the treatment it had received from the Paeroa, Rugby Union with reference to the East v. Suburbs senior match on Saturday last, and also the suspension of G. Royal. He did not. wirh’ to see the club secede from the union as a result of its deliberations, which action, he considered, would be unsportsmanlike and would result in the club gaining nothing. Mr Mettam said that it was unfortunate that the East Club had been the scapegoat but he strongly recommended the players to stick together and therebv gain- a share of public support, which had, apparently, been lacking in the past. The secretary (Mr W. Smith), said that as the club’s delegate and selector.- M • Eugene Shaw, had seen fit to withdraw from the union on account of the treatment received he -was of the opinion that the club as a whole should -stand by him. Tn inswer to inquiries from some of the members Mr E. Moore brieflv explained what had taken place at the union meeting the night previously. and stated that whilst he. agreed with rhe stand taken by Mr . Shaw, who had done his level best in the in terests of football, generally, he felt that the club would be taking an unwise step in pulling out from the competition. v Mr Jack Treanor said lie thought that the union had been inconsistent in the treatment of G. Royal. On being called on for an explanation Royal stated that he had been residing and working in Paeroa fur '-ver eighteen months, and he considered he was justly entitled to play far the East club, and had no,intention of misleading the union as to iis place of residence. A discussion took place with regard to the bona tides of G. Neil, and sev-c-al speakers gave evidence that he v is not a registered League player. Finally it was decided to request Neil to go before a J.P. and sign a document as to the part taken by him in the League game, and that the document be then handed to the Paeroa Rugby Union with a request that it be forwarded to the N.Z. Rugby Union for a definite ruling as to what constituted a Northen Union player. Mr' Jack Treanor moved, and Mr Moore seconded,- that the c'ub should ;p3roach the union and ask it to reconsider its decision of the suspension of G. Royal. • It was decided .that the club would make every.endeavour to put a senior tram .’n the field to-morrow. The chairman congratulated the cl'ib on its decision to carry on.
