GOLF.
OPENING OF SEASON. RAIN SPOILS GAME. The. official opening of the Paeroa Golf Club's season took place at the links on Saturday afternoon. There .were about forty players, including visiting players and a number of fr'emio, oh the links to v. Itness the opening. Dr. T. Gilbert Smith, tire president, in a neat speech welcomed the visitors and declared the links opened for the season. In the absence of Mrs Smith Mrs E. W. Porritt bit off amidst a round of applause. A fc-resonje was arranged, seven sets hitting off. Unfortunately, before the round of 12 holes could be completed by all heavy rain fell and spoilt what promised to be a pleasant afternoon’s golfing. The visiting golfers and friends were entertained to a delicious afternoon tea provided by the lady members o p the club. Witt', the eiithusiam whic'i was displayed and the fact that a number of new members will be taking part, the season augurs well for the club. Those who returned cards were: Mis Maingay and Dales 511, v. Mrs Topliss and J. A. Arthur 68 ; Mrs Bray and Morgan 63, v, Mrs Bell an 1 C. Kenny 61 : Miss F. Walmsley ami IV. Jackson 66, v. Miss Buchanan ami Bray 5'J.
