WAITAKARURU. TENNIS BALL. About a hundred ladies and gentlemen attended the first annual ball organised by the Waitakaruru Tennis Cl.ib, held in the hall on Wednesday evening. Few indeed had cause to express anything but satisfaction an ) appreciaiton for the arrangements made to ensure tlieir enjoyment. The inferior of the hall, usually so drea r , was sc transformed as to be unrecognisable Paper streamer# in the colours of the club, pale blue and cream, blended harmoniously with the lycopodium, which was was hung from the ceiling and adorned the walls, making the place t veritable fairyland. The pale electric lighting effects heightened the illusion, making an ideal ballroom. The next fa-dor to success was the splendid orchestral music, which proved unique attraction to the function, ami an irresistible call to the dancei;-, and it was only the approach of daylight mat dispelled the spirit of carnival,. Although the function was late in starting, due to the bad roads delaying the orchestra on its journey from Mercer, the ball was kept going steadily, not a hitch occurring. Great credit is reflected on the committee responsible, and it is hoped that their efforts will be crowned with financial success. NGATEA. SCHOOL CONCERT, Not for a very long time was the hall so filled as it was on Thursday evening on the occasion of the conceit given by the pupils of Ike Ngatea School in an effort to raise funds for school improvements, nor has there bc-'-n gathered such an appreciative audience. The second part of the programme comprised' items l>y Mrs McLean and Miss K. Miller, of Turua, Miss Wallace, of Kaihere. Mr Brooker, of- Ngatea, and Mrs Bathgate, cf Trames. HALL COMMITTEE.
