KARANGAHAKE NEWS.
HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. Hie annual meeting of householders was held in the Miners’ Union H-i'l last week, twenty-nine householders being present. Mr J. B. Morris occupied the chair. After discussing several items of interest to the school the election of a committee for the ensuing year was he'd, and resulted in all the members of the retiring committee being reelected. namely, Mesdames Tierney, McLeod, and Robinson, and Messrs Morris and Bramble. At a subsequent meeting of the newly elected committee Mi Morris was elected chairman and Mrs Tierney secretary and .treasurer. FOOTBALL. The local club opened the season on Saturday afternoon last by taking part ,n a friendly match with tlu Paefoa East Club on the Paeroa Domain. After a very interesting game the local boys proved the victors by 6 points to nil, scores being secured by J. O’Brien and B. Hardman. Mr F. Pitts refereed the game in a very satisfactory manner. The club have recently secured the use of the Church of England Parish Hall for the purpose of establishing a gymnasium; The first training class was held on Thursday of last week under the direction of Mr J. N. T. Jones, and if the interest and enthusiasm displayed on that occasion is maintained, the team should give a good account of . themselves in the forthcoming competition. CRICKET. A friendly match was played on the recreation ground at Maekaytown on Saturday last, when a team from the Waihi Druids’ Lodge were successful in defeating the local players. At the last meeting of the Loyal Karangahake Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., the secretary was instructed to forward all particulars in regard to the recent drowning accidents to the Royal Humane Society with the object of getting the society to recognise the very gallant attempt at rescue made by Mr E. M. McLeod in connection with the drowning of the late AV. H. Morris,
