TERRITORIAL PARADE.

RIFLE SHOOTING MEDALLIONS. PRESENTATIONS AT PAEROA. On Monday even ng a combined parade of Territorials and Senior Cadets was held in the Drill Shed, Paeroa. There was an attendance of 51 of all ranks, die parade of Senior Cadets being con-idered very creditable in vifiw of the boisterous weather. After the inspection had been carried cut troops acre addressed 'y Major U. E. Andrews, N.Z.S.C., stall' officer in charge of No. 1 Regimeut.ii District, who explained that the parade had been called for the purpose of presenting the medallions won for rifle shooting. Major Andrews said he had hoped that some of the public would have attended the parade, but no doubt the weather had been largely responsible for their absence. 11? heartily congratulated all concerned on the excellent results obtained in connection with the year’s regimental district rifle meetings. The matches had been fired at all centres on dates arranged to suit the convenience if competitors. Although the entry had betn voluntary, and, in fact, had inquired a small entry fee, the response had clearly shown the interest being taken in rifle shooting. Of the Territorials 45 per cent, and of the Cadets 47 per cent, of the total strength under actual training took part in the firing.

Tarring to the cadets. Major Andrews stressed the necessity for taking a keen interest in rifle shooting, and pointed out that it was a clean, manly sport. The temperate habits of young men were always reflected in their rifle shooting, and it was generally 1 safe to assume that the lad who was a competent rifle-shot was a lad who lived a temperate life.

The speaker said that Private A. A. Jenki.’son, of A Company, Hauraki Regiment, winner of the gold medal-, lion, had done exceptionally well n his shooting, and had come within one point of the possible marks, a record to be proud of. In handing Private Jenkinson his medallion ne heartily congratulated him on his performance, and trusted that even though he was liable to be posted to the reserve this year he would continue to follow up rifle shooting and take part in .some of the larger competitions in Auckland and Trentham. Silver medallions were also awarded to Sergeants J. T. Walls and D. E. S. Kerr, who each scored 73 points out of a possible 75.

Im conclusion Major Andrews stated that the regimental area extended from Thames and Coromandel to Gis-bo'-ne, and it was a matter for congratulation when it was considered that the members of A Compauv (Paeroa), HTuraki Regiment, had bb--tained no less than three out of the four awards.
