PAEROA POWER SUPPLY.

BUYING ELECTRICITY IN BULK. COUNCIL SEEKS INFORMATION. H the Thames Valley Power Board meeting yesterday a letter from th? Pa-Toa Borough Council was read asking for particulars as to the cost of reticulation within the borough area, the number of light and power consumers connected, the revenue derived from consumers within the borough, the price at which the board would consider handing over the reticulation to the council, and the charge for current in bulk. Mr Flatt said that the council had discussed the question of purchasing power in hulk after it had receive.! the reply from the board lelative to the lighting of the bowling green. The council was anxious to control its own supply of electricity, so as to be in a position to increase its number of consumers and offer inducements to users for power purposes. The conn ■ cil would also be in a position to use its discretion as to whom it could supply. At the present time the council was merely considering the proposition, and would he glad of the information asked for to assist it if. coming to a decision. 'n reply to Mr Willy the said that the Hauraki Plains circuit would not be affected in the event of the borough buying in bulk, as Paeroawould take over the low tension line only.

Mr Strange suggested that the engineers should be asked to supply a reoprt stating the position as to whether the hoard could make a paying proposition of maintaining the main linos and at the same time, allowing boroughs to pureha.se power in bulk. Mr Pohleu thought that the capital involved to erect the main' lines should l>e added to the cost charged to Mie boroughs for electricity in bulk. It was only fair that the boroughs should bear a proportionate, cost of the main lines. The chairman said that the figures to be supplied to the Paeroa borough would show the cost of reticulation of the borough only, it was not possible to definitely state a price at which the board could hand over to the borou.rh until a report from the engb'eers had been supplied. It was decided to supply the information asked for.
