THE MACHINERY LOAN.
APPROVED BY RATEPAYERS,
HEAVY POLLING.
The machinery loan proposals submitted by the Hauraki Plains County Council to a poll of ratepayers on Saturday last resulted in 241 votes be. ing cast for the proposal and 141 against. As a three-fifths majority was required the proposal was carried by' 11 2-5 votes. Details of the polling at the various booths are as follows, the numbers in parenthesis being the results of the sane proposal when put to the ratepayers in December last:—
Total 242 (158) 141 (116) The .polling can be considered as heavy, as a great many names have been struck off the roll since the last poll owing to the non-payment of the current year’s rates, and can be attributed to the Council’s action in thoroughly explaining the proposal to the ratepayers. The light polling at Hcrahia is explained by the fact that when the previous poll was taken the Hoi-ahia booth was the only one at which ratepayers could vote for that riding’s reading loan.
