ANNUAL MEETING

The twenty-third annual general meeting of the West Football Club, Paeroa, was held last evening. The president, Mr E. Edwards, presided over an attendance of about forty members and supporters, and the preccedings throughout were of an enthusiastic nature.

The balance-sheet disclosed a credit balance of £6 17s 7d.

The annual report stated that the club had experienced, a very satisfactory year. The seniors were successful in winning the championship, but the juniors were less fortunate, <;s just at a time when they had a fair winning chance a number of players left the town and the team was short fo” the remainder of the season. The thiid-grade team, although not credited with winning a match, bad always turned out in force and put up a hard fight. Altogether, the club had played ten matches, and had won seven of them. A special match was played at the end of the season against a team at Tapu, and it was recommended that the trip should be made annually. During the year the chib had lost two ardent supporters in Mr and Mrs J. Roach, and a farewell evening was held and a presentation made to them as a slight recognition of the club’s appreciation of their services. Later in the year a benefit dance was held and the proceeds handed to an old footballer in Paeroa who is in delicavj health.

Tn moving the adoption of the bal-ance-sheet the president congratulated the club on its healthy position and the success the different teams had achieved. The. secretary, Mr I. Poland was congratulated on gaining a position in the South Auckland representative team which he had held with distinction. The club had been In the fortunate position of being able to hand the sum of £5 5s to the Paeroa Rugby Union towards the dona-, tion made to the Borough Council fot improved dressing* shed accommodation. The election of officers for the citing season resulted as follows: —

The colours decided on were black and white jersley, black pants.

The subscriptions were fixed at 5s Jor seniors and juniors arid 2s 6d for the third grade. The president appealed-to the mem--bers to pay their subscriptions promptly. The dance committee is to be elected from members'of the general committee, with power to add. The president offered to donate a nmdal for the best senior back, Mr E. E. Neil a medal for the best senior . forward, and Mr H. Welsh a medal for the most improved junior player. A medal was also donated for competition among the third-grade player i. The proposed boundaries of the club were explained at some length by Mr J. Walmsley, and it was decided that they were acceptable to the club. Rules governing the various club areas were held over for discussion until after the Paeroa Rugby Union’s annual meeting.

A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that a practice match for the club’s players, irrespective of grade, should be held prior to the commencement of the competitions.. It was also decided to recommend that the club undertake a trip to Tapu before the season closed.

Messrs' Bigelow and Piercey were elected, members. At the conclusion of the business an enjoyable “smoker” was held and a lengthy toast-list was honoured.

PLAINS REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual general meeting of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Referees' Association was held at Ngatea last evening, there being present: Messrs G. T. Davidson (chairman), J. Banks J. Read, J. Costello, W. J. Clare, D. A. Vincent, J. N. Anderson, -ind V. Williams.

The following new members were elected: Dr. J. J'. Valentine, H-. L. Berney. W. J. Clare, J. N. Anderson, V. Williams, Rev. Beaufort, Edwards, G. Blyth, .1. Kidd, F. Stretton, J. T. Darlington, and T. McClean. The officers elected for the ensuing year were : President, Mr G. T. Davidson ; vice-presidents, Messis J. Costello, W. J. Clare,, and J. T. Darlington : secretary and treasurer, Mr -T Bunks ; delegates to Thames Valley Referees’ Association, Messrs Banks and Davidson; delegate to Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, Mr G. T. David -

KARANGAHAKE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Karangahake Football Club was held on Wednesday evening last, Mr J. Rackham presiding. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed, and thj balance-sheet, which showed a der-it balance of 6s, was adopted. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers for the inter--e.st taken hi the welfare of the club. The club membership fee was fixed at 2s 6d, all fees to be paid by April 30. The affiliation fee of 10s 6d was passed for payment. The colours chosen were blue and black jersey, with black trousers and blue seams.

Monday evening was set aside is the weekly practice evening, and it was also decided to hold a weekly training class under the direction of Mr J. W. T. Jones.
