TURUA RATEPAYERS.
SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Turua Ratepayers’ Association was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr P. R. Henry, presiding over an attendnace of twelve members. :,fr 1). G. McMillan explained the position in regard to the proposal io have a permanent wharfinger appointed, and it was decided, after a great deal of discussion, that he be asked to endeavour to have the board appoint a wharfinger. With reference to a contribution towards the cost, it was considered that users of the wharf were already paying sufficient. In regard to the suggestion that a. landing stage should be installed al th<> Kopu wharf similar to that in operation at Turua, and that a charge should be made to cover the cost, it was decided to inform the Harbour Bo.ird that the association would favour the charge if the launch owner would agree to collect it.
The position in regard to the Wharepoa ferry was also discussed, and it was decided that the County Council be informed that in the opinion of the association the ferry had’ outlived its usefulness, and that the association was opposed to any expense in connection with reopening .t
