DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday evening last, the following being present: Messrs W. H. Taylor (chairman), C. H. Pascoe, N. C. Busby, W. T. Power, L. C. Cane, R. G. Southby, C. T. Mettam, E. E. Gi’-Jman, G. H. Taylor (headmaster), and W. L, Lawrence (secretary). EXTRA ASSISTANT. The Education Board wrote in reply to the committee that in accordance with the recommendation of the senior inspector application had been made rfor the Minister’s authority to appoint an assistant teacher to the staff hi lieu of a pupil teacher. SCHOOL COMMITTEES’ ASSN.' , $ The Primary School Committees’ Association, Auckland, wrote advising the date of its next quarterly meeting. After consultation with the headmaster, it was decided to take no acj? tion with regard to the remits that were forwarded for consideration. HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. The action of the secretary in arranging for the annual householders’ meeting to be held in the Soldici., Club hi April was confirmed. APPRECIATION. It was decided to write and tharx " two Auckland firms; for donations of prizes for competition at the annual school picnic. It was also resolved :o record appreciation of the services rendered by the Mayor and councillors of TO Arolia on the occasion of the school excursion, to that town last month. GROUND IMPROVEMENTS. With reference to the schoolground improvements Mr Gillman reported that the work was proceeding satisfactorily, and that the wire-netting fence ‘in Wood Street had been com- ‘ pleted and a labourer was now engaged in completing the stonework. The steps leading to the boys’ upper playground were being constructed of

The secretary was instructed to obtain the loan of a roller for the use of the workmen engaged tarring and sanding the playwround. MANUAL SCHOOL. The report of the delegates who waited on the Hon. C. J. Parr with reference to the establishment of a ■ manual and technical school during ■Avjiis visit to Paeroa last month . stated that although the project had not been very favourably received it .was hoped that the establi shinent would be carried to a sue-, cessful issue during the coming financial year. The committee decided to record its appreciation and thanks to the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) and Mr H. Poland, ALP., for their efforts in the matter. CLASSES AT THAMES. On the motion of Mr Gillman, seeonded by the chairman, it was resolvto request the headmaster not to send pupils to Thames for the purpose of receiving manual and technical instruction during the coming winter months, from May to September, inclusive. VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs Power and Cane were ap pointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £l4' 9s Id were passed for payment.
